@vteclee94 yes, all Mitsubishi engines (including? this 4G69 engine) are interference engines. The never make it past 100,000 miles.

thanks. I used the special tool MD998738 & MD998767 to properly tension the eccentric pulley and a 1/4″ beam torque wrench
If you need? instructions on how to do this step, let me know

@inspector1963 Well I have used a right angled snap ring pliers to swing the tensioner pulley to were I want it. (basically where it was to begin with) ? I am sure that there is a special tool to put in the two (2) holes in the pulley. The hydraulic tensioner does the rest.

I noticed the waterpump is in the same area so i would assume it would save me money down the road ….what are your? thoughts??? and is there anything else in that area that should be changed?? thanks

Yes cam mark points up to a mark, clean things up and it should be pretty obvious.Special tools are not always a must , but they can make the job go faster. ? In the beginning of the video it is the Power steering serpentine belt I do believe.

@Autotechviewpoint does the? cam mark line up at 12 when you line up the crank on tdc? when you move the tensioner the first time to remove the belt wat belt was that? serpentine? is the special tool a must?

@Orangys280Z Here is some links you may find useful.
Google “2.4L timing belt change the galant center” post is Aug 27 2007. It has a lot? of pictures.
Google “on a 2002 galant 2 4 timing belt change what is the best thing” Oct 3 2010 justanswer
Just thought I would post what I found while researching online.

@Orangys280Z I haven’t took mine off yet even though the only thing left I have to do is remove the crank pulley and timing cover but I have already loosened the 4 12MM bolts . But I am gonna guess it might slide off. If not then a? person would have to get a puller. I will add a from what I learned while removing my water pumps pulley. Break the bolts loose on the water pump pulley before removing the drive belt. I tried to do it without the belt while holding it and it wouldn’t work.

Awesome video dude! One question from me is when you take off the crank pulley(4 bolts) does it just come off, or is it pressed on? I’m gonna do a 03 Galant timing belt sometime this week and has the same engine as? this Eclipse. Gonna be doing this at my house.

@Autotechviewpoint So did you have to use a screwdriver to insert into the engine to lock the balance shaft? And if so why couldn’t a? person just do it before hand. Another thing I just plan to only remove the Primary timing belt and not the little one, so would a person still have to lock the balance shaft?. If I understand correctly, the balance shaft is ran by the little timing belt? I dont plan on removingit
The belts are already new. I just have to remove it to recondition the head.

@Autotechviewpoint I appreciate any and all help that you can give me. The thing is I am getting ready to pull the timing belt off a 02 Galant and I found out while back the the Eclipse and Galant share the same engine. So after no luck finding? any videos on here about the Galant’s 2.4L engine I decided to look for Eclipse’s. And I just happen to run across your video that you put up. It appears that both engine’s are the same inside the timing belt cover. Just not outside so much…
